Description

The U.S. Department of Labor, Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) is responsible for enforcing health standards promulgated under the authority of Section 103 (a) of the Federal Mine Safety and Health Act of 1977. A national network of MSHA inspectors collects health samples at approximately 900 coal and 6,000 metal/nonmetal (MNM) mines located in the United States and its territories to monitor miners exposures to hazardous contaminants. The health samples are analyzed by validated analytical methods and citations are issued to mine operators if exposure limits are exceeded. MSHA is seeking the services of an American Industrial Hygiene Association (AIHA) certified and National Voluntary Laboratory Accreditation Program (NVLAP) accredited laboratory to supplement its Pittsburgh Safety and Health Technology Center (PSHTC) Laboratory capabilities to analyze health enforcement samples for asbestos fibers. These samples are collected by MSHA inspectors and other MSHA personnel at mining operations throughout the United States and its territories. The selected Contractor will have the ability to quantitatively analyze a broad range of industrial hygiene and environmental samples, for mineral fibers, asbestos, and Erionite.
