Description

Proposed Contractor: Carl Zeiss Microscopy, LLC Description of Requirement: This maintenance contract covers the continued support, inspection, calibration, and servicing of the ZEISS LSM 980 / Axio Observer 7 microscope system to ensure reliable, safe, and high-quality operation for all research laboratories that depend on the instrument. The objective is to maintain optimal system performance, minimize downtime, and protect the long-term functionality of this shared imaging resource. Justification for Sole Source: Only One Source: Carl Zeiss Microscopy is the only known responsible source capable of providing the required services that meet NIAMS technical, compatibility, and continuity requirements in accordance with FAR 6.302-1. Proven Performance: Carl Zeiss Microscopy has reliably supported NIAMS operations, demonstrating consistent, timely maintenance and repair performance that protects reagents and research samples. Quality Management: Carl Zeiss Microscopy performs services under an ISO 9001:2015 accredited Quality Management System, ensuring standardized procedures and documented quality controls. Market Research: NIAMS conducted market inquiries and determined no other source has been identified that can meet the specialized compatibility, performance, and quality requirements described above.
