Description

Contract was awarded on a sole-source bases to Data Security Inc. Data Security, Inc. is the Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) for the three pieces of specialized data destruction equipment requiring service: the LM-1 Degausser, DX-8 Heavy-Duty Destruction Device, and SSMD-2mm Solid State Media Disintegrator. Competition is limited to this single source for the following reasons: Proprietary Knowledge and Technology: As the OEM, Data Security, Inc. possesses unique and proprietary knowledge of the equipments design, software, and operational tolerances. A critical maintenance task for the SSMD-2mm, for example, requires adjusting the gap between the Bed Knives and Grinder Shaft to a manufacturer-specified tolerance of .008 inches. This task requires specialized knowledge and tools that are not available to third-party vendors. Certified Technicians: Only Data Security, Inc. can provide factory-trained and certified technicians who have access to the latest technical bulletins, proprietary diagnostic tools, and software updates. Service by an unauthorized vendor could result in improper calibration, posing a risk to both the operator and the equipment's effectiveness. Maintaining NSA/DoD Compliance: This equipment is listed on the NSA Evaluated Products List (EPL) and is used to sanitize classified and sensitive digital media in accordance with DoD standards. Maintenance by an OEM-certified technician is essential to ensure the equipment continues to operate within its certified parameters. Failure to use a certified technician could nullify the equipment's compliance status and create a significant security risk. Availability of Genuine Parts: The OEM is the only guaranteed source for genuine, factory-specified replacement parts. Use of non-OEM parts by a third party could lead to equipment failure and would void the manufacturer's warranty. Therefore, only the OEM, Data Security, Inc., is capable of providing the required preventative maintenance service to the level of quality required to ensure operational security and reliability.
