Description

The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) intends to negotiate and award a non-competitive purchase order to, Grove Engineering Inc., 4925 Boonsboro Road, Lynchburg, VA 24503, for MicroShield Annual Software and Maintenance. The anticipated period of performance for the renewal is a one-year base period from June 10, 2026, through June 9, 2027, plus four one-year option periods to extend the term of the contract. MicroShield is a comprehensive photon/gamma ray shielding and dose assessment program that is widely used for designing shields, estimating source strength from radiation measurements, minimizing exposure to people, and teaching shielding principles. MicroShield is used by NRCs health physicists, waste managers, design engineers, and radiological engineers. MicroShield is fully interactive and utilizes extensive input error checking. The integrated tools provide results of graphing, material and source file creation, source inference with decay, projection of exposure rate versus time due to decay, access to nuclide data, and decay heat calculations. Grove Engineering owns the copyright to the MicroShield software licenses and does not currently authorize any other sources to sell maintenance renewals for their licenses. The authority for this acquisition is FAR 6.103-1, which permits soliciting from a single source if the contracting officer determines that the circumstances of the contract action deem only one source is reasonably available to procure support for a one-year base period and four one-year option periods. The NAICS code for this acquisition is 511210.
