Description
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) intends to procure a one (1) year contract to the unique qualification of The National Law Enforcement Memorial Fund on a non-competitive, sole-source basis. Despite advances in equipment and training, traffic?related incidents continue to claim the lives of hundreds of law enforcement officers297 over the past decade, making roadway dangers nearly as deadly as gunfire (376) for todays officers. (https://nleomf.org/memorial/facts-figures/officer-fatality-data/officer-deaths-by-year/). With the recent partnership between the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund (NLEOMF) and Below 100 is designed to drastically reduce law enforcement line-of-duty deaths (LODDs) and injuries by fostering a stronger culture of safety and promoting, through training, the "Five Tenets" of officer safety. The collaboration focuses on reducing preventable deaths, particularly in the areas of traffic accidents and officer-involved crashes, to bring annual fatalities to below 100, a number not seen since 1943. The proposed project will collect data on line of duty deaths, develop communications, programs, and educational materials, and advance the NHTSA mission through web-based content, social media, and evolving technology that will focus on the agency priorities related to officer safety.
